Early guards in bronze (Yamagane)

Yamagane is the name for a coarse variety of bronze, a material which was sometimes used for guards concurrently with iron from an early date. Examples are not common, but large numbers may have disappeared by way of the melting—pot, or as the victims of accidental fires.
