Shummei Hōgen and the Tanabe

Kōno Haruaki (b. 1786, d. 1859), better known by his buddhistic name and title Shummei Hōgen, was the most brilliant of the numerous pupils of Yanagawa Naoharu. He applied the Yanagawa style to works displaying much careful thought in their composition and finish, and transmitted his knowledge to a dozen pupils of note.

Another of Naoharu’s pupils was Tanabe Tomomasa, whose son (of the same name) and grandson (Akitomo) both studied under Shummei Hōgen. [See EAX.10987]
