    Indian Block-Printed Textiles in Egypt: The Newberry Collection in the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford

    Two bands set at right angles to each other, with linked rosettes and small squares, and borders of linked diamonds. The pattern is white on a red ground, and partly filled with light blue. The design is as in Cat. no. 1173 [EA1990.1177].

    Selvedge, with remains of stitching. Additional stitching is in the centre of the fragment. Surface and reverse show an equal dye saturation, and it is not possible to determine the method of mordant application. The blue was applied to the surface. The size of the block used was 14 cm. x 10 cm.
