Indian Block-Printed Textiles in Egypt: The Newberry Collection in the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford

A continuous field of small white circles and red quatrefoils on a brown ground, with a border at the selvedge with naturalistic fruit and flowers, red and white on brown.

Selvedge. A bias edge is carefully hemmed with flax thread. The reverse shows less dye saturation than the surface. There is no evidence for the use of blocks. The naturalism of the fruit and flowers, which includes shading, date the fragment to the mid-19th century at the earliest; it is not Indian.
