Birds of prey were a popular subject of export textiles. This type of eagle, called a white-tailed eagle, lived in Hokkaidō, in the north of Japan. The design may have been taken from a photograph. A variety of different threads is used to create different textures on the feathers, snow, tree, and pine needles. (Exhibition number 14)
