    The Barlow Collection

This piece may have been inspired by Yuan dynasty (1279–1368) stemcups, although it does not closely follow any early prototype. The potting, with the solid foot and stem, which makes the profile rather stolid, does not fit with an early dating, nor does the sparkling glaze.

The piece is thickly potted, with a deep U-shaped cup, straight solid stem and everted domed foot with flat base. The outside is decorated with slender petals raised in relief, with curved everted tips. The glaze is glossy and bright, with a faint bluish tinge, the base is unglazed and the white body is discoloured yellowish-brown.
