View from Massaki of the Suijin Woods, the Uchikawa River and Sekiya Village

Description
In this bold composition, a circular window has been half opened to reveal the sunset over the Uchikawa River. Plum blossoms outside show that it is spring. This is probably a view from one of the many tea houses and restaurants at Massaki, not far from the Yoshiwara pleasure district. A vase of magnolia on the wall to the left has been dramatically cropped.

Hiroshige’s Views of Tokyo
From the second floor of a dengaku (grilled tofu) restaurant we look at Mount Tsukuba from the other side of the Sumida River to that of the vantage point of the previous print [EAX.4351]. The 'moon-viewing' window, with the arrangement of camellia in a hanging basket to one side frames the view.
