Indian Block-Printed Textiles in Egypt: The Newberry Collection in the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford
Band of inscription, four solid lines on either side, a band of six-petalled rosettes made up from dots, and a row of stylized trees alternating with palmettes, as in Cat. no.s 142 and 142 [EA1990.150, EA1990.151]. The resist defines the design, the background is blue.
The inscription combines actual script with mistakenly interpreted shapes. The words 'to its owner...' can be read. The type of script suggests an early date, possibly 11th to 12th century. Also published in Barnes 1990: 190, fig. 6.
