The piece is heavily potted, with a pear-shaped body, a tall flared neck with down-turned rim, and a broad, slightly splayed foot. The horizontal luting lines are clearly visible. The yellowish-buff stoneware is exposed on the footring and base and otherwise covered with a white slip and yellow-tinged glaze. The sides are painted in brown with two phoenix in flight, each bearing a flowering sprig in its beak, and a scroll of similar blossoms above, all bordered by spiralling lines, with further lines around the neck.
