earthenware
Ceramic material made of clay which is fired to a temperature of c.1000-1200⁰c. The resulting ceramic is non-vitreous and varies in colour from dark red to yellow.

The Barlow Collection
The thick-walled cup is formed by hand, supported on a stem which widens towards the flat heart-shaped base. A freely-modelled bird is attached at the front, its head with long neck ending in a loop in front, the cup forming its body and a long flat handle on the other side its tail. The piece is made of grey earthenware, the surface has been burnished. The handle may be slightly altered in shape through restoration.
