Indian Block-Printed Textiles in Egypt: The Newberry Collection in the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford

A very large rectangle with its main field filled with white, six-pointed stars on a red ground. There is a narrow, brown border along each selvedge, and a wide band of white, stylized trees on a brown ground at each of the narrow ends.

Two selvedges. At one end is an open warp, where the fabric was to be cut. The textile is sewn together from four pieces, but this seems to be a recent mending, following the pattern of the fabric. The reverse shows less dye saturation than the surface, and the outlines of the blocks used are clearly visible on this side; their size was 14 cm. x 10 cm.
