Bad news arrives at court

  • loan
  • Description

In this lower section of a manuscript page, courtiers below a throne area express their dismay. A military defeat has probably been announced, during the conflicts among the Quraish tribe in seventh century Arabia. The Tarikh-i Alfi (‘History of a Thousand Years’) was a compendious history commissioned by Akbar in anticipation of the Islamic millennium year.
