    The Barlow Collection

This type of bowl represents one of the classic Koryŏ tea bowl types, which were made in great quantity and at great speed. A somewhat lesser version, also in the Barlow Collection, [LI1301.370].

The rounded bowl has an inward curved rim, a straight, almost solid foot with low footring. The inside has a small flat centre, the sides are incised with two sketchy parrots with combed strokes for wing and tail feathers. The translucent glossy grey-green glaze has an overall crackle and fully covers the piece. Several firing supports have burnt into the glaze, leaving patches of a white paste on the base.
