    The Barlow Collection

Wares of this type, which resemble Jun wares of Henan, but are less fine in material and less distinctive in their shapes, are often called ‘soft Jun’ wares. Their precise dating and origin are not yet known.

The small vase has a nearly globular body with a low broad foot and a wide, slightly splayed neck with a thickened rim flange. A thick milky-blue glaze covers the outside, adhering in uneven layers with thick drops and pooling around the foot. Inside, the glaze ends at the neck, the base is thinly glazed and the footring unglazed, showing the yellowish body.
