The Newberry Collection of Islamic Embroideries

Red and blue quatrefoils are linked by single lines set at right angle and creating a grid design. The design fills the entire square of the small kerchief, and it has a border of a single line of spaced cross stitch.

A selvedge along one side, and remains of finely rolled hems along two further sides. The cloth was probably used as a square kerchief.

The textile has been radiocarbon dated, with a late result of 1720 AD +/- 90.
