Jagat Singh II of Mewar (r.1734-1751) spent years in developing the pleasure palaces on the lake at Udaipur. The lake palace of Jagniwas (now the Lake Palace Hotel) was his own creation and his favourite resort. Here he passes along a corridor, then takes his seat in a courtyard garden to contemplate its ordered beauty while listening to his female musicians.
