The Barlow Collection
The large, heavily potted bowl has rounded sides and a thick, slightly tapering foot. The centre inside was impressed with a medallion which has not properly registered, the sides are carved and combed with undulating waves, turning into turbulent crests at the rim, the outside shows a lotus scroll with three wide open blooms among dense foliage and a ruyi border at the rim. The glaze is light green and originally covered the footring which is now worn, exposing the near-white body. A wide ring on the base, which was left exposed to support the piece in the firing, has fired a deep brick-red.
