Vitreous coating applied to the surface of a ceramic to make it impermeable or for decorative effect.

The Barlow Collection
The cup has steeply rounded sides, a straight foot and a pointed base, and the outside is carved in relief with a rank of overlapping lotus petals. The piece is heavily potted, the grey-green glaze finely crackled on the inside, the yellowish-brown biscuit exposed on the footring.
