    The Barlow Collection

The Green Dragon and the White Tiger are considered as rulers over the East and the West, respectively.

The pear-shaped vase stands on a trumpet-shaped foot with convex base and a flat-cut footring. The flaring neck has a protruding angular rim, and two simple curved handles on either side. The body shows clear luting lines at the neck, shoulder, widest part of the body and between body and foot, and the upper part is decorated with a dragon and a tiger in relief, the former in pursuit of a flaming pearl, the latter with a small plant in front of it. The light yellowish-buff stoneware is visible at the lowest part of the sides, foot and base, the rest is covered with a transparent green-tinged glaze with distinct crazing.
