    The Barlow Collection

This bowl which in style roughly follows ‘hare’s fur’ tea bowls of the Southern Song period (1127–1279), is unusual in its angled shape and very straight walls, and in the behaviour of its glaze, which does not vary noticeably in thickness or colour from rim to foot.

The thickly potted conical bowl is angled above the straight, nearly solid foot which has a very shallow broad footring. The dark brown glaze has an even motting of thin lighter brown streaks overall and stops near the angle outside, leaving the lowest part exposed in the brown biscuit.
