The Barlow Collection
The bowl is of wide rounded form and has a groove for better handling below the rim outside, and an almost solid, straight narrow foot with shallow, unevenly cut footring. The dark brown glaze reaches only halfway down the sides, the unglazed part being covered with a reddish-brown dressing. The base and footring are unglazed and show the coarse yellowish-beige ware. The inside is painted in a milky yellowish-brown tone with a pair of phoenixes and two butterflies circling round a central flower-head.
