  • The Barlow Collection by the University of Sussex

    The Barlow Collection

The piece is roughly following a Song dynasty (AD 960–1279) design, but is very heavily potted, with a very coarse foot, and an uncommon glaze colour.

The small globular jar has a low narrow neck with a rolled rim and a straight-cut foot. Two deeply incised grooves mark the edge between shoulder and sides. The opaque glaze is of grey-green colour, the base is glazed but the footring unglazed, showing a reddish-brown biscuit.
