    The Barlow Collection

    The baluster-shaped jars have a short straight neck, and a narrow flared foot with a thick footring with chamfered edge and a slightly domed base. The steep, domed covers have a slightly raised flat circular area on top, which makes them usable upside down as cups. The vessels are heavily potted and thinly incised with a flower scroll with two four-petalled blooms around the shoulder, and again around the body, with tall, slender overlapping lotus petals below. The covers are decorated with a floret on top, surrounded by spiralling petals and a lotus scroll around the sides, all sketchily incised and nearly hidden under the thick yellowish-green glaze. The footring of the jars is unglazed and the inside bottom of the cups has also been wiped free of glaze, the biscuit having fired a yellowish brown.
