earthenware
Ceramic material made of clay which is fired to a temperature of c.1000-1200⁰c. The resulting ceramic is non-vitreous and varies in colour from dark red to yellow.

The Barlow Collection
The dog is rendered in a lively pose, its slender body lowered on its front legs, its head turned to the left and somewhat raised, the tail curled up, all placed on an unevenly shaped, flat plinth. The grey pottery is covered with a white dressing and red pigment. The animal figure is hollowed out underneath.
