A Krishna tale

  • Description

A crowned, blue-skinned figure in a yellow dhoti, possibly the god Krishna, converses with a woman bearing a dish, perhaps Radha or another of the gopis or milkmaids. Meanwhile a dark, bearded man, also crowned, crouches beside a large pink bull or cow. (This might perhaps refer to a popular comic tale in which the cowherd god Krishna, while gazing at Radha in adoration, confusedly tries to milk the bull instead of a cow). As in other pages from this group the edges are trimmed, so that only parts of a tree, a peacock and a smaller bovine are seen. The staring eyes and curious angularity of the figures and the deft fluency of the brushed outlines are typical of this distinctive folk style.
