A raja and lady sit embracing within a chamber, attended by maids. They gaze enraptured at their joint reflection in a mirror which the lady holds. This subject is borrowed from the conventions of Rajasthani court painting but is here dramatically simplified. Strong primary colours are used, and the palace setting is depicted with great economy. Three naïve stylised trees burst out with yellow blossoms above.
