    Catalogue of Islamic Seals and Talismans

    Cornelian; bezel, bevelled towards the front; oval; the back angle is slightly cut. Five lines separated by straight lines formed by elongation of a ligature or the return of a final loop. Cursive script; engraved.

    (1) Oh my God! Bless the Prophet (Muḥammad), the Commissioner (`Alī), اللهم صل على النبي والوصي
    (2) the Virgin (Fāṭima), al-Ḥasan and al-Ḥusayn, the Worshipper (`Alī), [والحسن والحسين والسجا[د [sic] والبطول
    (3) the Great One (Muḥammad), al-Ja`far, the Silent (Mūsā), the Pleasing (`Alī), والباقر والجعفر والكاظم والرضا
    (4) the Pious (Muḥammad), the Chaste (`Alī), the Soldier (Ḥasan) والتقي والنقي والعسكرى
    (5) and the Mahdī (Muḥammad) والمهدى

    There are some decorative motifs consisting of two short vertical strokes, crossed in the centre by a straight horizontal stroke; other decorative motifs are simple regular crosses, the extremity of every branch being crossed by a stroke.

    One line follows the shape of the gem.
