  • Islamic Seals and Talismans by Ludvik Kalus

Catalogue of Islamic Seals and Talismans

Cornelian; bezel, bevelled towards the front; oval. A rectangle is inscribed in the oval ground, leaving four segments outside. Inside the rectangle is an ensemble of cursive script (nasta`līq); some loops are elongated vertically.

One who is moderate is mighty, one who is greedy is weak. عز من قنع وذل من طمع

The ground is covered with spirals and with flower heads consisting of dots. There is one schematic flower in each of the four segments. One line with pointed lobes follows the shape of the gem.
