The A. H. Church Collection of Japanese Sword-Guards (Tsuba)

The field is of mokkō shape with (removable) shakudō border of rounded oblong outline; the former is boldly encrusted with a spray of kiri, continued at the back, the leaves in shakudō, the racemes in gold and silver; fine ishime ground with patches of basketwork somewhat coarsely inlaid in gold and silver (this perhaps a later addition); the border is engraved with karakusa.
