Decorative application of metal sheeting (generally of gold or silver) where the iron ground is first cross-hatched and the metal burnished on.

The A. H. Church Collection of Japanese Sword-Guards (Tsuba)
On the front the peak of Mount Fuji (snow-cap in silver), with clouds, water, pagoa and pine-trees; at the back, continuation with six wild-geese flying downwards. Signed with a gilt seal character [? Japanese text, Ya) within an octagon.
The whole design represents one of the Eight Views of Lake Ōmi, viz., Katata no rakugan, "Homing Geese at Katata".
