    Fret-pierced in negative silhouette with five large peony flowers, voided and conventionally treated; specially made copper tang-hole plugs.

    Signed at the back on an inlaid silver plaque: Takahashi [Japanese text] Masatsugu [Japanese text] with seal [Japanese text in a seal] (unread). (This master, a pupil of Akao Yoshitsugu III, early 19th century(?), was famous for guri work, Group LXVIII).
