  • The A.H. Church Collection of Japanese Sword-Guards (Tsuba) by Albert James Koop

The A. H. Church Collection of Japanese Sword-Guards (Tsuba)

Modelled in openwork as an iris-swamp, with four of the plants and several of the little plank bridges giving access to them; narrow border.

One of a pair of which Sir Arthur Church gave the other to the V. and A. M. in 1911.

It is instructive to compare the naturalistic treament of this guard with the more conventional drawing of No.33.
