kozuka
The handle that holds the small knife called the kogatana.

nunome-zōgan
Decorative application of metal sheeting (generally of gold or silver) where the iron ground is first cross-hatched and the metal burnished on.

A kind of brass made from an alloy of copper, zinc, and tin.

alloy of copper and gold, patinated to a dark blue-black colour

The A. H. Church Collection of Japanese Sword-Guards (Tsuba)
Almost square, the corners rounded and hammered up; thin and slightly crumpled; polished surface encrusted in bold relief with three (or two) persimmons of rather squat form, in copper or shakudō, with leaves and other details in the same and gold; also on each face traces of a bottle-gourd vine in gold and silver nunome; long trefoil kozuka-hole plugged with sentoku.
