Decorative application of metal sheeting (generally of gold or silver) where the iron ground is first cross-hatched and the metal burnished on.

The A. H. Church Collection of Japanese Sword-Guards (Tsuba)
Slightly irregular ground; the only decoration a border of pencils of gold nunome of varying length issuing from the edge on each face; ryōhitsu edged with gold nunome.
Hawkshaw Collection, no.249. The design probably represents the more usual Amida-yasurime or radial striations. A guard with similar decoration in the Moslé Collection, no.636, signed by the same artist, has a plain border beyond the gilt lines.
