Chen Wenxi is from Guangdong province but from the late 1940s spent much of his time in Singapore and other parts of Asia. Most of his works depict animals, which is a common subject for Lingnan artists. In painting gibbons, a favoured subject, he uses dry ink with a wide, fine-haired brush.
