Chinese Prints 1950-2006 in the Ashmolean Museum

I feel fortunate that I gained very good art training when I was young, this training has benefited me for life.

Wang Hongyi graduated in 1982 from the Quan Xianguang Studio in the Printmaking Department of the Lu Xun Academy of Fine Arts (LAFA) in Shenyang. He then taught art history at the College of Art in the Harbin Normal University, and subsequently at the LAFA. He further undertook a postgraduate course on aesthetics in the Philosophy Department of Peking University in Beijing and is now a professor in the Art History Department of the College of Art at Shanghai University. Wang is one of the few artists who have been deeply involved in the history and theory of art. His early woodcuts reflect European influence, and the content of his work marks a departure from the propaganda formula.
