Indian Block-Printed Textiles in Egypt: The Newberry Collection in the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford

A large square with a beaded edge, white on brown, and a red quatrefoil in the centre. The quatrefoil is similar to one in Cat. no. 521 [EA1990.528]. The background to the square is red.

The reverse shows only partial dye penetration for the brown, while there are additional traces of red. A fragment found at Quseir al-Qadim has a square with a similar, although much simpler, quatrefoil, as well as the fragmentary beginning of two regular flowers, possibly set into squares (see Vogelsang-Eastwood 1990: Cat. no. 35).
