Indian Block-Printed Textiles in Egypt: The Newberry Collection in the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford

Small, eight-petalled rosettes, white with a small red dot on each leaf, and set into a grid pattern of cross shapes; two bands set at right angles, one with eight-petalled rosettes set into circles, the other with semi-circles set off against each other to create an ondulating pattern. Both bands have beaded borders. While the field of small rosettes defines the pattern white against red, the bands have red designs with white outlines, against a red background.

Blue stitching. The reverse is heavily saturated with dye. The cross shapes of the first design field have all but one disintegrated, probably because an iron mordant had been added to these details, to give them a dark colour.
