Indian Block-Printed Textiles in Egypt: The Newberry Collection in the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford

A diagonal band with a dotted, continuous vine and stylized leaves, as in Cat. no. 525 [EA1990.532], and fragmentary evidence of a second band at a right angle. There also is the beginning of a large design with tear-drop shapes which have a radiating surround and a small rosette inside each, as well as large, eight-petalled rosettes alternating with each tear-drop. The resist defines the pattern, and the background is brown or red.

For both red and brown, the reverse shows more dye saturation than the surface.
