Indian Block-Printed Textiles in Egypt: The Newberry Collection in the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford
Circles with a braided border and either a spiral inside, or a pair of birds; stars filled with interlace and linked to each other by knots. The pattern is dark grey against a white background.
The reverse is less saturated with dye than the surface. The fragment is Near Eastern in origin. The dye analysis has shown that the colorant used was tannin, which may have been applied to the textile with a pigment.
