Indian Block-Printed Textiles in Egypt: The Newberry Collection in the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford

A border band with a medallion with leaf terminals, and eight-petalled rosettes set into linked star shapes. A narrow sawtoothed edge runs along either side of the band, and beyond it is fragmentary evidence, in swirling tendrils, of a design area as in Cat. no. 188 [EA1990.196]. Although in general the resist defines the design, there is some ambiguity in the patterning of the band, and forms can partly be read as blue against a white background.

Selvedge. While the border band is certainly block-printed, the tendrils of the fragmentary main design field may have been drawn by hand.
