The Newberry Collection of Islamic Embroideries

A wide band filled with continuous interlacing; the interlace bands in turn are filled with cartouches and squares that are ornately filled with geometric patterns. The hexagonal spaces between the interlacing each have a spiral set into an octagon.

The embroidery of the interlace alternates between medium and light blue; the light blue is done with extremely fine darning stitches. One long side of the fragment has a hem stitched with 2-ply flax thread, while at right angles to it one of the short sides has a rolled hem whipped with silk thread.
