The Newberry Collection of Islamic Embroideries

An appliqué band of fine leather with a linked circle and white star, each containing a knot design created by overlapping circles.

The appliqué is made from finely cut leather strips which are attached with flax thread, embroidered in running stitch. The ground fabric is blue linen, with a backing of paper. The star is filled with a backing of white linen. There is additional embroidery along one border, creating small chevrons.
