The Newberry Collection of Islamic Embroideries

An interlacing chain design is arranged into a band, with a pink central line surrounded on both sides by pale yellow (undyed silk) lines. The band has narrow borders with a continuous vine, arranged as an arabesque with turning tendrils.

The band has a width of 8 cm including the borders. The fragment may be the cuff of a sleeve, as in EA1984.269. Again two fabrics are held together by the embroidery. Here there is no evidence of hem seams. The top fabric is considerably finer than the bottom one. The identification, threadcount and spin given above refer to the top fabric first.
