    The Newberry Collection of Islamic Embroideries

    Three bands with blue or red inscription and a single blazon containing a red, six-petalled rosette; a fourth band with a blue inscription and rosette blazon has been sewn onto the end.

    The fragment with the single band has been sewn on upside down. Three of the bands have blue script, one red. The blue inscription in one band has disintegrated, and the tracing line has become visible. The larger fragment is stained to a dark yellow. The best preserved band is the single one added at one end; it has a gauze backing, probably of recent origin and sewn on as conservation measure.

    The inscriptions read: 1. 'al-ilm wa'l-hilar wa'l' (knowledge…..);
    2. ?
    3. 'al-iqbal wa'' (prosperity…..);
    4. ..…al-'izz wa'l-iqbal' (glory and prosperity).
