The Newberry Collection of Islamic Embroideries

A band of continuous vine or arabesque, filled in with red couching stitch; threads are couched down over surface satin filling stitches. There are the remains of a blue outline, possibly worked in stem stitch.

Two fragments of the same design have been sewn together border to border. The sewing is quite crude and was possibly done recently as a repair. The design, stitch technique and colour, as well as ground fabric analysis are very similar to EA1984.56; both fragments were probably part of the same fabric.
