This sketch was drawn in 1999 when Xu Bing went to the Himalayas, on a visit organised by the Kiasma Museum of Contemporary Art, Helsinki. It depicts a stone enclosure around various plants, with a river beyond trees and a lavatory, and more trees in the foreground. This is one of the first landscripts he drew and shows how the method developed, for example, the character 水 (water) for river water, 木 (tree) to depict trees.
