This is a finished drawing of which several preparatory sketches also exist. Xu Bing produced it while preparing his degree project. Typically, it depicts no figures, and the water on the exterior of the ceramic drinking bowl at the left shows that a horse has recently drunk from it. The characters pasted onto the gatepost are part of an auspicious couplet, in a widespread rural custom.
