    The Barlow Collection

Small Jun ware bowls of this form are called ‘bubble bowls’, since the globular form and glossy glaze can create the optical illusion of a soap bubble spanning the rim.

The well-rounded globular bowl tapers towards the straight foot and has a somewhat pointed base. The opaque light milky-blue glaze fades to a translucent mushroom brown at the rim and ends around the foot in an uneven line, leaving base and much of the foot exposed in the brown-burnt biscuit. The inside is decorated with three uneven splashes of purple glaze which are surrounded by a darker blue halo, with two similar splashes decorating the outside.
