Crocheted in fine wool, this pair of patterned short gloves formerly belonged to Warren Hastings (1732-1818), who became the first Governor-General of Bengal in 1773. Born in Oxfordshire in 1732 to a poor family, Hastings worked for the British East India Company and worked his way up through the ranks.
